The recent Magnitude 9.0 earthquake that occurred off the coast of Miyagi
Prefecture was of a scale that none of us have ever experienced, and was
followed in quick succession by powerful aftershocks that extended across
many regions of Japan.
Further, the large tsunami that descended upon the Pacific coastline of the Tohoku region in the wake of the earthquake caused severe damage and much loss of life.
We wish to offer our sympathies to all of those who have been affected by this disaster, and express our sincerest condolences for the victims who lost their lives.
Many people remain stranded without relief, and it is our hope that as many as possible will be rescued without delay.
The staff and members of Soto Zen International stand together in wishing for the fastest possible recovery of the disaster-affected areas, and declare that we are willing to provide our tireless support to the people in those areas to the greatest extent possible, for as long as we are needed.
